Provisioned storage and provisioned IOPS for io1 and io2 volumes will be billed in per-second increments, with a 60-second minimum.įor example, let’s say that you provision a 2,000 GB volume for 12 hours (43,200 seconds) in a 30-day month. With Provisioned IOPS SSD (io1 and io2) volumes, you are also charged by the amount you provision in IOPS (input/output operations per second) per month. Volume storage for EBS Provisioned IOPS SSD (io2 and io1) volumes is charged by the amount you provision in GB per month until you release the storage. Example 4 – EBS Provisioned IOPS SSD (io1) Volumes This is because each volume is provisioned with less than 32,000 IOPS therefore, for each volume the IOPS are charged at $0.065 per provisioned IOPS. Thus, if you provision 10 io2 volumes 1,000 IOPS for 12 hours in a 30-day month, such that cumulatively you have provisioned 100,000 IOPS, your total IOPS charge will be 10 times that in example 1 ($10.83). Note that IOPS tiering is applied at a volume level. Similarly, if you provision a volume greater than 64,000 IOPS in an account enabled for io2 Block Express, IOPS above 64,000 will be charged at the rate of the third tier of provisioned IOPS. In a region that charges $0.065 per provisioned IOPS-month for the first 32,000 IOPS and $0.046 per provisioned IOPS from 32,001 to 64,000 IOPS, you would be charged $56.133 for IOPS that you provisioned (($0.065 per provisioned IOPS-month * 32,000 IOPS provisioned + $0.046 per provisioned IOPS-month* (60,000 - 32,000))*43,200 seconds/(86,400 seconds/day *30 day-month)). In a region that charges $0.125 per GB-month, you would be charged $4.167 for storage. Now, let’s say you provision another io2 volume with 2,000 GB and 60,000 IOPS for 12 hours in a 30-day month. In a region that charges $0.065 per provisioned IOPS-month for the first 32,000 IOPS, you would be charged $1.083 for the IOPS that you provisioned ($0.065 per provisioned IOPS-month * 1,000 IOPS provisioned * 43,200 seconds /(86,400 seconds /day * 30-day month)). In a region that charges $0.125 per GB-month, you would be charged $4.167 for the storage ($0.125 per GB-month * 2,000 GB * 43,200 seconds / (86,400 seconds/day * 30 day-month)). Provisioned storage and provisioned IOPS for io2 volumes will be billed in per-second increments, with a 60-second minimum.įor example, let’s say that you provision a 2,000 GB and 1,000 IOPS volume for 12 hours (43,200 seconds) in a 30-day month. Therefore, as you provision higher IOPS on a single volume, the effective provisioned IOPS charges decrease, making it more economical to scale IOPS on a single volume. With Provisioned IOPS SSD io2 volumes, you are also charged by the amount you provision in IOPS (input/output operations per second) per month. Volume storage for EBS Provisioned IOPS SSD io2 volumes is charged by the amount you provision in GB per month until you release the storage. ($0.06 per provisioned MB/s-month * (500 MB/s provisioned – 125 MB/s in the free baseline performance) * 43,200 seconds /(86,400 seconds /day * 30 day-month))= $0.375Įxample 2 – EBS General Purpose SSD (gp2) Volumes In a region that charges $0.06 per provisioned MB/s-month, you would be charged: ($0.005 per provisioned IOPS-month * (10,000 IOPS provisioned – 3,000 IOPS in the free baseline performance) * 43,200 seconds /(86,400 seconds /day * 30-day month))= $0.583 In a region that charges $0.005 per provisioned IOPS-month, you would be charged: In a region that charges $0.08 per GB-month, you would be charged: Additionally, you provision 10,000 IOPS and 500 MB/s for your volume. Provisioned storage, provisioned IOPS, and provisioned throughput for gp3 volumes will be billed in per-second increments, with a 60-second minimum.įor example, let’s say that you provision a 2,000 GB volume for 12 hours (43,200 seconds) in a 30-day month. Additional IOPS and throughput can be provisioned independently and are charged by the amount you provision in IOPS per month and MB/s per month until you release the IOPS or throughput. All gp3 volumes include a free baseline performance of 3,000 provisioned IOPS (input/output operations per second) and 125 provisioned MB/s throughput. Volume storage for General Purpose SSD (gp3) volumes is charged by the amount you provision in GB per month until you release the storage.

Aiseesoft Video Enhancer is one of the best video enhancement software available for Windows users. This should bring up a list of computers that are sharing files. If for some reason you removed this from your default window display, you can connect to server by going to "Go>Connect to Server" then pressing browse. If you don't see it in the finder window, click "all" in the lefthand column. If you're local host computer is a mac, then it should see the computer under 'Shared' in a new finder window (Command + N). If you want to share files with windows users click on SMB, but again they'll need login information unless you make some folders 'public'. Click on options brings up a dialog for choosing the sharing protocol type. Otherwise, if you just want your folders available to the people who know the login information for the remote user, then you can leave that part blank. If you want to add any public folders, which are available to other users go ahead and do that. Go to Apple Menu>System Preferences>Sharing. First you need to setup the 'remote host' for file sharing. Unfortunately, this only really works if you're on the same network. File sharing either allows you to see the 'public' folders that the remotehost user chooses for file sharing, or it also allows you to see and write to all the remote users stuff if you have the login and password for that user. If you are copying a large number of files that don't reside in one folder, or if you'd like to easily cherry pick files from one computer to put on another then this is clearly the best way. We'll talk about SSH and SCP, which are used extensively in the later instructables in this group. We'll talk about file sharing between macs Then we'll talk about screen sharing and screen sharing remotely. If you are copying files you might want to connect with either a network cable or a firewire cable. This instructable talks about connecting to your mac mini with just a network connection. I'm only going to talk about the ones I use, but they are so handy that you will probably make great use of them as well. There are countless ways to connect and each way provides different services and are great for different things. Its the computer you generally have to connect to. For me its generally my laptop that I use at work and I bring home. I will always use "localhost" to refer to the computer that you are connecting to your mac mini. One piece of lingo we need to set straight deals with which computer we're talking about. Connecting to your mac mini while at home or away is crucial, especially if you don't have a keyboard mouse and monitor permanently attached. Bumper crops seldom occur back to back, and are typically succeeded by several years of average to poor production. Instead, it follows a boom-and-bust cycle. The hard-mast crop is hardly consistent, though, from year to year. Some scientists say oaks produce more nuts annually than all other kinds of nut trees combined - both wild and commercial. This includes beech, hickory, walnut and others, but acorns are by far the bulk of the hard-mast crop. Soft mast is used by wildlife primarily during the summer and fall. Soft mast includes pine seeds and fruits from vines, shrubs and small trees - persimmon, dogwood, grape, blackberry, and the like. Wildlife biologists distinguish two types of mast: hard and soft. Mast refers to fruits and seeds of trees and shrubs. And there, in a nutshell, is an important environmental catch: not all years are good years. In a good year, one tree can produce thousands of acorns, and an acre of oak woodland can yield a quarter-ton or more of nuts. The nuts range from peasize (willow and pin oaks) to whopping jawbreaker-size (bur and white oak). Scientists will likely never agree on the exact number of different oaks. I say roughly because many oaks readily hybridize, producing pesky crosses that feed the fires of the ongoing debate among biologists over what, precisely, makes a species a species. Without the benefit of the nuts’ energy, those birds and animals will starve or fail to reproduce successfully.įortunately, the United States is blessed with roughly 58 species of native oaks. For many more, acorns are a lifeline to spring and beyond. For many - including gray squirrels, blue jays, black bears, chipmunks, ruffed grouse and deer mice - nuts are the main food source, a critical element of day-to-day survival. Upwards of 100 species of birds and animals include acorns in their diets. But far more often than not, a forest creature gobbles the nut and its stored nutrients first. Its purpose is to sustain a sprouting seedling until the infant grows green leaves and can stock its own larder via photosynthesis. But only the lower end of an acorn’s innards is occupied by a rudimentary root and stem the rest is nutritive tissue loaded with protein, carbohydrates and fat. Like other nuts, an acorn is a seed, an embryonic tree-to-be wrapped in a hard shell. Scientists are only beginning to unravel the extraordinarily complex interplay between plants, wildlife and acorns in woodland ecosystems. The slam against unforgiving truck metal has to be a whole different kind of wake-up call.Įqually as eye-opening to biologists and ecologists, though, is the reverberating environmental impact of acorns - the countless billions that land with a gentle thud, and a collective bang, on soil and leaf litter from coast to coast. Once hatched, the larva burrows as much as a foot deep into the soil, where it remains for up to five years before pupating and emerging as a full-grown acorn-sucking beetle. The jolt of an acorn’s fall to the ground signals to the larva that the time has come to bore its way out of the shell. By summer’s end many acorns carry the larvae, one to a nut, deposited as eggs in tiny pinholes drilled by feeding adult weevils. No matter where I move my truck in our tree-covered driveway it sits beneath an oak, and acorns come raining down on it like oversized hailstones on a tin roof.Īs startling as each resounding impact is to me, it must be a truly jarring experience for the little weevil larva curled inside the meat-filled shell. Magnificent oak trees and their acorns sustain countless wild creatures.īLAM! BONK-BLAM! BLAM! In the 1950’s The Tam O’Shanter installed a Great Wall O’ Scotch to showcase bottles Lawrence Frank and Walter Van de Kamp collected on thier trips abroad. Whether you’re a neophyte or a connoisseur, or just feel like having a good drink, the Tam O’Shanter’s whisky collection has some “liquid sunshine” for you. Our mixologists Alberto apply their expertise and creativity to come up with a well-balanced list of cocktails based on all the spirits. We pair whiskies with each course of a multi-course meal specially created by our chef. In addition, we co-sponsor four or five whisky dinners during the year with various distillers. Then we’ll construct whisky flights for them and discuss the fine points of the spirits as they enjoy them. For instance, a guest might organize interested friends and tell us about their experience and preferences. We also offer a custom-curated experience for those who want something educational and uniquely pleasurable. We offer different whisky flights daily so they can compare and contrast flavors and styles. Like with beer and wine, developing a discerning palate for whisky can be a lot of fun and become something to share with others. Our shelves are filled with “holy grail whiskies”– like Dallas Dhu, Port Ellen, North Port, Pittyviach, Little Mill and Rosebank – that most people only read about.ĭon’t know much about whisky? We love introducing the novice to the expansive world of whisky. We also have bottlings from lesser-known producers. For example, we have the latest releases of US Bourbon from Pappy Van Winkle, Whistlepig and Elijah Craig, just to name three. The Tam O’Shanter boasts over 600 different labels from around the world with a focus on independent bottlers and hard to find whiskies. Each whisky’s distinctive flavor comes from aging this liquid in different types of casks for varying lengths of time. Whisky is made by distilling a fermented grain mash, a “new make” (meaning a clear alcohol rich liquid) is created. The American and Irish spelling is “whiskey,” while the rest of the world uses the Scottish spelling of “whisky.” Here at Tam we like to honor our nearly 100-year-old Scottish themed restaurant and go with the Scottish spelling “whisky”. John Lindquist has been the general manager for nine years and since the installation of the spectacular Scotch whisky display in the restaurant’s lobby five years ago, he has overseen the growth of its whisky collection into one of largest and most varied in Southern California. Scotch whisky tasting in Los Angeles gets no better than at the Tam O’Shanter. I'm not super strict on drinking juice right after it's pressed, but what's the point of offering cold press to customers if they're not fresh and not saying this is how it's done? It looked as if all the ingredients are cold pressed in large batches and poured together when making a juice during the day. I wondered what that meant and took a peak in the back. I was told 5 minutes after waiting that there was no cold pressed romaine. The choice between cold press and regular was available for the same price, so of course I went with cold press. I ordered the Green Goddess juice as well: Parsley, Kale, Spinach, Celery, Lime, Cucumber and Romaine. Any opinions expressed in the examples do not represent those of Merriam-Webster or its editors. In the San Francisco Bay Area where Dean Byington lives and. Equation says the total entropy entering the system from outside is less than zero for an irreversible closed cycle. This follows from Clausius’s theorem and the fact that entropy is a function of state, satisfying d S 0. Sebastian Smee, Washington Post, After seven years in the Hammerskins, exhaustion and entropy were setting in. Entropy Has No Opposite Griff Williams, Artist and Director: Gallery 16 / Urban Digital Color. In irreversible processes, entropy is created: it is not a conserved quantity. 2022 Succumbing to something closer to entropy than evolution, the watercolor starts to puddle and bruise. Ahmed Almheiri, Scientific American, 17 Aug. 2021 This is the island formula for the entanglement entropy of the Hawking radiation. Conor Feehly, Discover Magazine, 3 Nov. For this to be true, then entropy (and life in return) would have to be a 'force'. If entropy is the tendency of things to resolve to a lower state of energy, then perhaps life is the tendency of things to elevate their energy. This is my weakest conclusion, but Ill present it nonetheless. James Riordon, Scientific American, In short, the tendency for systems to move from low entropy to high entropy, the particular spacetime conditions of our solar system and the indeterminacy of the future combine to create our particular conception of time. Life is the opposite 'force' from entropy. Entropy is a well defined concept in information theory (and can be connected to the physical concept). James Riordon, Scientific American, The expansion allows the universe to smooth out, dissipating the entropy before collapsing again. information is not a good term for the opposite. Quanta Magazine, That flaw is entropy, which builds up as a universe bounces. 2022 If the entropy of the system decreases, the entropy of the environment must increase such that the sum of the two entropies can only increase or stay the same, but never decrease. Jennifer Ouellette, Ars Technica, 2 Dec. Notes on extending the above to Tsallis entropy measure are found in an Appendix.Recent Examples on the Web Jacob Bekenstein realized in 1974 that black holes also have entropy. It is concluded that such generalizations are not only interesting and necessary for discussing directed networks, but also may give new insight into conceptual ideas about directed or other networks. Entropy is the quantitative measure of spontaneous processes and how energy disperses unless actively stopped from doing so. The role of the imaginary part finiteness is discussed in particular and given some physical sense interpretation through local interaction range consideration. It is calculated for the illustrating case. Since eigenvalues can be complex numbers, the information entropy may become also complex-valued. In nonequilibrium steady states, the detailed fluctuation theorem relates the probabilities of observing entropy changes of equal magnitude but opposite. The whole, intra- and inter-community adjacency matrices, resulting from quotations of published work by the community agents, are elaborated and eigenvalues calculated. The studied network, serving as a case study, in view of illustrating the discussion, concerns citations by agents belonging to two distinct communities which have markedly different opinions: the Neocreationist and Intelligent Design Proponents, on one hand, and the Darwinian Evolution Defenders, on the other hand. The corresponding statistical physics notions are outlined. It applies in particular to directed networks (digraphs). The notion of complex-valued information entropy measure is presented. e-mail: address: Université de Liège, Sart-Tilman, 4000 Liège, Euroland. It is one thing to call someone or something evil or bad, but it is far more vivid to describe the image of a woman drunk with the blood of the saints ( Revelation 17:6). The signs are also necessary because there is tremendous power in symbolic language. “John had visions from heaven but he described them in his own language and manner.” (Clarke) To us, this book is prophecy, but John simply recorded history unfolding before him, as he saw it. John described things he saw, so he could only use symbolic images to explain it. Yet the signs are necessary because John expresses things of heaven, which Paul said he heard with inexpressible words ( 2 Corinthians 12:4). It is true that the signs used in Revelation have been a source of confusion or controversy for some readers. It is a book of signs: the angel sign-ified this message to John. He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John: This describes how the message is delivered in the Book of Revelation. The idea is not that the event may occur soon, but that when it does, it will be sudden.” (Walvoord)Į. Shortly is the ancient Greek phrase en tachei, which means “‘quickly or suddenly coming to pass,’ indicating rapidity of execution after the beginning takes place. Yet for 2000 years, history has been on the brink of the consummation of all things, running parallel to the edge, not running towards a distant brink. Shortly take place: Short and near are relative terms, and this is God’s timetable, not man’s. I can hardly realize that this is seriously meant.” (Seiss)ĭ. “Some tell us that what is yet future ought not to be examined into till after it has come to pass. Some would say that we should not be concerned with prophecy, that it is a frivolous exercise - but if God was concerned enough to talk about it, we should be concerned enough to listen. The time is near ( Revelation 1:3) for the fulfillment of these things, but the time was not present at the time of writing. It describes things that must shortly take place. Not all prophecy is predictive, but this prophetic book clearly is predictive. It speaks of things that will happen in the future - at least future from the time of its writing. This means that the Book of Revelation is a book of predictive prophecy. Things which must shortly take place: This describes when the events of this book will take place - they will happen shortly, and they must happen shortly. This is an apocalypse - a revelation, not apocrypha (something hidden).Ĭ. God gave this revelation that it might be shown, not hidden. Which God gave Him to show His servants: This is an important reason why God gave this Revelation of Jesus Christ. How we need a revelation of Jesus! “The great fault of many professors is that Christ is to them a character upon paper certainly more than a myth, but yet a person of the dim past, an historical personage who lived many years ago, and did most admirable deeds, by the which we are saved, but who is far from being a living, present, bright reality.” (Spurgeon)ī. If we catch everything else, but miss Jesus in the book, we miss the Book of Revelation. Most of all, it is the Revelation of Jesus Christ to us. This book shows us the Antichrist, it shows us God’s judgment, it shows us calamity on the earth, and it shows us Mystery Babylon in vivid detail. From the outset, we are given the most important truth about the Book of Revelation. It is also Jesus’ Revelation in the sense that He is the object revealed Jesus is the person revealed by the book. The word simply means “a revealing, an unveiling.” The Book of Revelation is the Revelation of Jesus Christ in the sense that it belongs to Him, He is the one doing the revealing. The Revelation of Jesus Christ: The ancient Greek word translated Revelation is apokalupsis (apocalypse). And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw.Ī. The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants - things which must shortly take place. ( Revelation 1:1-2) The writer of the Book of Revelation. PopClip automatically appears every time I select text, and that's annoying, so I want to trigger it from the keyboard instead. With PopClip, I just highlight the text, choose Copy from the popup menu that appears automatically, position the mouse where I want to place the text and with a click the menu agains shows up automatically and I choose Paste. PopClip is a Mac app that adds the iOS functionality of a bunch of options showing up above selected text. Do you enjoy carefully highlighting a word or a text string with your mouse and then right-clicking to copy it to the clipboard and then positioning your mouse where you want to paste the text and right-clicking again to paste it in? That's the Windows way. I didn't realize how much I would appreciate it until I'd used it for a few days and then tried to do a similar feat in Windows (our company is, alas, a Windows shop). This little app just sits quietly and awaits a chance to help you. |
